The Porta faces the way that led to Pisa. It was built in 1566 and it is the most stately access of the Renaissance walls. It is characterized by the upper arcade, open to its outer side, and the central tympanum with the inscription LIBERTAS which is the saying of the Lucca's Republic. The Porta was the only access to the town for the foreigners that were here obliged to surrender all the weapons but the sword and the dagger. The weapons were then returned once outside the town.
