The works began with the reinforcement of the Etrurian walls, but as the area was too wide compared to the defensive necessities of the town, the walls' perimeter was reduced to the borders of the hamlet itself. The building technique differed from that of the Etrurians and it involved the use of smaller blocks and the creation of moats along the most vulnerable parts in the external walls.
